‘Rama’, the Sanskrit word means ‘that which revels in the bosom of every being’—Sarve ramante iti raamah. Modern science explains that it is one ‘Consciousness’ that pervades the entire field of creation—both animate and inanimate. From out of Consciousness emerges the first evolute—Sound Vibration—sabda brahma. The Primal sound—Aumkara—consists sof three syllables—A, U, and M– respectively the sound forms that emerges from daharaakaasa (A)—bosom, that which rolls forward on the tongue (U) and the lip sound (M).
The Veda declares—prajaapate vai idamagre aaseet, tasya vaak dwiteeyo aaseet, vaak vai prajaapati which finds a literal translation in Bible, “First there was the Lord, then there was the word, the word was with God.” Consciousness–Prajaapati–takes to the form of Sabda or Vaak—the Sound or Word, from out of which emerge the electromagnetic vibrations constituting Proton, Electron and Neutron, the creative force behind the universe. Sabda or Vaak or Sound is Shakti or Force—The God or source of all creation with all auspiciousness and power. From Aum emerges Sri Rama, the Godhead of all creation. From Sri Rama—the Impersonal Godhead—emerges the Personal Godhead—Jaya Rama—with all attributes and power of creation (Brahma), sustenance (Vishnu), and dissolution (Shiva) with their corresponding Energy forms, Saraswati, Lakshmi, and Ishwari. That Personal God creates or evolves into the manifest universe—Jaya Jaya Rama.
The Consciousness per se is a combination of Consciousness and Energy, or in the words of Mahayogi Sri Aurobindo, CONSCIOUSNESS-FORCE, Shiva-Shakti, the positive and the negative forces combined. The letter Ra represents the Rudra or the Consciousness and Ma represents Uma, the Mother-force or Energy.
By chanting the Ramanama Taraka—Aum Sree Rama Jaya Rama jaya jaya Rama—and contemplating and meditating on the Truth, one goes from the material manifest world to the inner world of Consciousness.
